What are some intermediate snakes most appropriate when small kids are in the house?

I have a bearded dragon, 3 BPs, a corn and a california king. I also have 3 kids who are 2, 4, and 6. They're all housed in a dedicated room / office in my basement. I'm interested in a boa-type snake, but have read mixed messages in terms of care, "handle"-ability. Thanks.
I should correct myself and say that the animals are kept in the room and not the kids….:)

However - it takes a few years for a young RTB to get to a size that could be something to cause concern. By the time the snake gets that big, your kids will have been around it for some time as well as it around them. These are docile snakes and if kept socialized make a great pet for anyone.
