Should I be worried about ringneck snakes and other types of snakes while my son plays outside? What can I do?

Today I found my sons kitten playing with a dead baby ringneck snake on the front porch where my 17 month old son and I go outside to play. My son loves to be outside and run around. We live in Nettleton, Mississippi surrounded by trees and Im very scared my son will be bitten because he is a very curious boy. What should I do to help prevent an accident with these snakes.

At that age they just have to be supervised. Keep grass well trimmed and keep under the bushes as leaf free and weed free as possible. I did see a bottle of something called "snake away" once at Farm and Fleet. It is probably available at any of those garden centers like Lowes, Home Depot or agricultural supply stores. Talk with your child about snakes and things that squiggle away because you would be surprised how much kids listen. It cannot be a one time speech, they need to hear the rules of playing outside every time.
